It is important to have rules about the types of clothing that people are allowed to wear at work and at school.
Freedom, in this day and age, is among one of the words that people love to talk about the most; dress code, from many people’s perspective, becomes the symbol of violation to it. Although I myself am also the firm supporter of freedom, to be required to wear certain types of clothing during work or school time, for me, is not the opposite side of my free will. I maintain that it is wise and also important to have regulations about clothing in the work and school place.
The first and the most conspicuous merit of regulating the clothing is that it can save a great deal of time as well as money for the employees and students. If the employees and students are able to choose what they want to wear every day, they naturally will spend some or even a great amount of time in considering their dress choice; it can be a tougher problem for girls and women. Stories in which a girl gets up very early to choose her clothes for the day are very common today. Likewise, they will also need much money to buy enough clothes in order not to wear similarly every few days. However, when they are regulated to wear a certain type of uniform during their work and school time, they do not need to spend the time or money on clothing; all the things they have to do is to dress up the uniform and go to their work or study place, in which way that can save plenty of time as well as money.
Beyond that, uniformed clothing can also achieve a sense of equity in the work and study place; it can also effectively avoid the unnecessary comparison among staffs and students. The financial situation of different employees and students are of great difference. If they are given the right to wear what they want to wear during work or study, their dressing may, to some degree, reveals their financial gap. For example, the obvious brand name on the clothing may create a sense of privilege for the owner as well as a sense of humility for others. Employees and students therefore may begin to compare with each other in this economic aspect, and to define an individual by what he or she dresses. This scenario is extremely harmful to the harmony of the office and the school. However, if the employees and students are required to dress certain types of clothing, some individuals are less likely to distinguish themselves and their financial ability.
Last but not least, a unified dress code can create a sense of solidarity for the companies and the schools. The dress code of a company or a school definitely will become a symbol or character of this institution, which can in a strong way remind the employees and students that they come from a same organization and thus realize a strong sense of belonging for this organization. Many people have the experience of being excited when coming across some other people who wear the same or similar uniform as theirs. Under such circumstance, people feel connected and united. In one word, the sense of connection created by the unified clothing can promote the solidarity of the institution.
Take into account what have been mentioned, it is indeed a good way to have a certain type of rules for people’s clothing in the work and study place. Not only can the employees and students save time and money, they can also enjoy a sense of equity and solidarity by wearing the required clothes during work and study time.
